Student Perspective: Shoshana K. studied at TAU in Spring 2015 - check out her post on our study abroad blog!

Please note: The courses at TAU fulfill most of the requirements for the Jewish Education minor. Please contact the School of Education for more information.

  • TAU required course load: 19 credits for undergraduate students
  • No language prerequisite

Program Calendar
Fall: mid-July to late December (includes Ulpan)
Spring: mid-January to late May (includes Ulpan)

Academics
Students take a full semester of courses alongside other international and Israeli students. A typical course load is 15 credits (5 classes) plus the mandatory pre-semester Intensive Hebrew course, Ulpan, for 4 credits. Please keep in mind that if you enroll for more than 19 credits for semester you may be charged for the additional credits you take. Grades from TAU will be posted to your academic record and factored into your overall GPA at SU.

For a list of courses pre-approved for SU credit, please click on the "Courses Offered" link at the top of this page. There is no guarantee courses on the list will be offered during your semester abroad, so please refer to the World Partner website for the most up-to-date course offerings. If you want to take a course that is not already approved, Syracuse Abroad will assist in obtaining approval from the appropriate SU academic department.

Housing
Student dormitories are conveniently located directly across the street from the Tel Aviv University campus. Dormitories are divided into suites of two to four bedrooms; two students share each bedroom. Each suite is fully furnished and includes a kitchen and bathroom.

Students are not permitted to choose to arrange housing in Tel Aviv through an outside company or organization. Students must live in Tel Aviv University housing.

Visa
All U.S. Citizens and most non-U.S. citizens are required to have a student visa for their semester in Israel. TAU will provide assistance with the visa application process.

Program Cost
You will pay SU tuition and can apply all SU financial aid except work-study. You may be charged for any additional credits if you exceed 19 SU credits per semester (including the Ulpan). Besides tuition, you will also be charged a program fee which covers pre-departure meetings, international travel insurance and services not covered by tuition and for which a separate fee is not charged.

You will pay housing directly to TAU.  Upon acceptance, you will be asked to pay a deposit toward the total cost of your housing.

For further explanation of estimated costs, please see the financial planning budget here: Tel Aviv Budget Spring 2019.pdf.
