Discovery MadridRetiro Park

This program is designed for accomplished first semester freshmen students entering Syracuse University with an interest in the arts, humanities, international studies or social sciences. You'll set the tone for your college career with an unforgettable learning journey in Madrid, Spain, where your curiosity and desire to learn will be nurtured by an experienced faculty and dedicated international staff.

This program is only available to entering freshmen in The College of Arts and Sciences. The program fulfills the same curricular requirements as those pursued by freshmen studying on Syracuse University's main campus, while providing a course schedule unique to adrid. Five courses are typically offered for the fall term, including the First Year Forum and Spanish language, for a total of 16 credit hours. More information on your curriculum will be available from the College of Arts & Sciences after your acceptance.

Students live with Spanish hosts. Homestays allow students to practice Spanish learned in class and to gain insight into Spanish culture and lifestyle. Hosts are carefully screened and most have hosted SU students for many semesters. Hosts represent all walks of life and professions: some are large families, some are retired couples, some are divorced or single parents, some are young couples. Placements are arranged by the housing coordinator in Madrid, based on information you provide about your preferences and special needs. Continental breakfast (seven days a week) and evening meals (five days a week) are included in the program fee when you live with a host.
