The University of Limerick (UL) was established in 1972, the first university established since the foundation of the Irish State. UL enrolls over 17,000 students and offers a full range of courses for international students. The University of Limerick has been ranked 11th in the world for its efforts towards campus sustainability and environmentally friendly university management and was named "University of the Year 2015" in the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Ireland is the third largest island in Europe. It is composed of the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), and Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom. Situated at the mouth of the river Shannon, Limerick is a dynamic educational, economic, social and recreational base serving the mid-western region and the surrounding areas.

Academics
With pre-approval from SU, you may take any course offered within UL’s six colleges of the University: Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities, Informatics & Electronics and Science. A typical course load is 4-5 courses at three credits each. It is not unusual to have only one exam at the end of the semester that determines your grade in the course. Grades from UL will be posted to your academic record and factored into your overall GPA at SU.

For a list of courses pre-approved for SU credit, please click on the "Courses Offered" link at the top of this page. There is no guarantee courses on the list will be offered during your semester abroad, so please refer to the World Partner website for the most up-to-date course offerings. If you want to take a course that is not already approved, SU Abroad will assist in obtaining approval from the appropriate SU academic department.

Housing
You have the option of living on-campus in one of five village complexes.

Visa
U.S. citizens do not need a visa to study in Ireland. UL will provide instructions on applying for a residential permit upon arrival in Limerick. International students may require a visa prior to entry.

Program Costs
You will pay Syracuse University tuition and can apply all Syracuse University financial aid except work study. Besides tuition, you will also be charged program fee which covers pre-departure meetings, International Travel insurance and services not covered by tuition and for which a separate fee is not charged.
