CET Jordan: Intensive Language
CET Jordan's Intensive Arabic Language Program is based at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. The program attracts a select group of serious students who want to concentrate on their Arabic language training. You will have access to modern campus facilities, complete with an advanced research library, sports facilities, and wireless internet access. Jordan, with its stable society, burgeoning identity and wealth of cultural resources, is the perfect setting for Arabic language learning. Amman, the country’s capital, is known for its approachability—visitors feel comfortable trying out their language skills. And as Amman is a hub for Jordanians from across the country, students are exposed to Arabic’s diverse sub-dialects and accents, exposure that serves them well as they attend one of the city’s many concerts, events or sporting matches.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- SU required course load: 12-19 credits for undergraduate students
- Prerequisite: Two semesters of recent Arabic language
Spring: late January to May
Fall: late August to mid-December
Required language courses include Modern Standard Arabic as well as Jordanian Dialect. Each student is assigned a local language partner to help practice the dialect. In addition, you will choose two Middle Eastern Studies electives. As a measure to assist language improvement, all students are required to abide by a language pledge and use Arabic at all times, including interactions with fellow students, program staff, and local counterparts. Grades from CET will be posted to your academic record and factored into your overall GPA at SU.
For a list of courses pre-approved for SU credit, please click on the "Courses Offered" link at the top of this page. There is no guarantee courses on the list will be offered during your semester abroad, so please refer to the World Partner website for the most up-to-date course offerings. If you want to take a course that is not already approved, Syracuse Abroad will assist in obtaining approval from the appropriate SU academic department.
Apartments within walking distance from campus. You will share your apartment with a local roommate.
You will pay SU tuition and can apply all SU financial aid except work-study. A program fee which you pay to SU includes housing with a Jordanian roommate, visa processing, CET immersion activities, course materials, International Student ID card and services not covered by tuition and for which a separate fee is not charged.
